Hi,

here’s some info which was mentioned in the LCM on Wednesday 8th October:

1. If you haven’t reagistered on myaiesec.net - do it! Just go to www.myaiesec.net and press the magic sign up button. For any help needed contact me - AIESEC Riga VP Com Jevgēnijs at jevgenijs.viznuks@aiesec.lv or call/sms 29107669.

2. The “Run for Latvia” event is happening on 18th and 19th of October (Saturday and Sunday). I regisered for the last hour of the run so that means AIESEC is running it’s 100 meters somewhere between 10:00 and 11:00. Which means that at about 9:20 we should already be at the Daugavas Stadions (check 1188.lv or zl.lv for the map). If you want to join us, just e-mail, call, sms or write here in the comments. PLease be fast, id’ like to show the organizers that AIESEC is fast and furious :)

3. On Monday. October 13th there will be an education about exchange, 18:30 in the AIESEC office (LU EVF, through the yard into the basement with the AIESEC sign hanging on the wall). See you there if you are interested in knowing how exactly X is happening and especially if you are interesed in joining the X team or going for an internship!

And as a treat, here’s the video with pics from NTS, enjoy!

Sir Ken Robinson

Outstanding and inspirational! Hearing Sir Ken Robinson’s speech has made me think of how the school system where I live works or better yet, where is slows down and blocks. It made me contemplate, what and how I, as a special ed teacher and family therapist working with parents of children in mainstream schools, can do to promivate creativity and the potential every human being possesses in themselves.

AIESEC Riga with other NGOs for better education!

null It started with Latvia long-term development strategy till year 2030 during which some AIESECers took part in forums and discussions with the input in this strategy looking from youth point of view. Now, when it is done, it’s time to start moving towards it’s realization. There has been established a youth workgroup with a goal to improve educational system in Latvia and it is supported by Prime Minister of Latvia, I.Godmanis.

At the moment the workgroup consists of 14 youth from different NGOs including 2 AIESECers - Zane and Gatis and also ex-AIESECers.

The problems considered with the existing educational system includes:
1. It prepares youth for a world that doesn’t exist anymore (industrial), while nowadays it’s more important to quickly learn, integrate and solve problems, create new ideas, not the knowledge to work on standard situations.
2. Kills creativity using methods that uses just left-brain modes, limits thinking and freedom of expression…. and there are more…

So if you are interested or concerned about this topic, just contact us or write a comment to this post.
